Greatsword is the Warrior's heavier weapon style: build Resolve, withstand pressure, and choose when to commit to a heavy attack. The class introduction names Brace, Unbridled Might and Warrior's Cry as parts of that identity. The progression article also shows that Greatsword can branch toward offense or guarding rather than forcing every player into one allocation.
Read the power cycle
Warrior's Cry builds Resolve while affecting nearby enemies. The class profile describes enough accumulated Resolve enabling Unbridled Might, which empowers the next attack. That makes the setup and the spending attack different decisions: reaching the setup does not mean every moment is safe for a slow commitment.
A useful practice sequence is to watch the enemy's attack, establish your defensive opening, check your available Resolve-related action, then commit to the follow-up. This is an editorial way to learn the described kit, not a measured damage rotation or a claim about an undisclosed resource threshold.
Know the named attacks
| Skill or action | Described purpose |
|---|---|
| Brace | Withstand incoming attacks |
| Leaping Strike | Move into the enemy line with a forceful forward attack |
| Unbridled Might | Release accumulated power to strengthen the next attack |
| Final Cleave | Bring the Greatsword down in a heavy overhead strike |
| Rampage | Follow through with two major attacks in succession |
| Warrior's Cry | Build Resolve and pressure nearby enemies |
Before extending a sequence, check where you will finish it. A powerful follow-up is less useful if the enemy has moved away or your next defensive action is unavailable.
Choose a trait path for a specific problem
The October 15 official progression article gives these contrasting examples:
- Offense: unlock Armor Break and turn Sunder into Sweeping Slash, adding a wider cleave that hits twice.
- Defense: take Pummel Strike, an attack usable while guarding that grants a damage-absorbing shield.
These are examples of different playstyles using the same weapon, not a recommendation to buy every named node at once. Open the current Traits tree, trace its connections and inspect prerequisites before spending. If you are repeatedly interrupted while trying to attack, the guarding example addresses a different need from seeking wider cleave.
Keep character stats separate
Level-up stat points do not automatically buy Greatsword traits. The developer separated weapon Trait Points from character level. If the skill you want is still locked after leveling, check the trait currency and required path rather than assuming the level-up failed. Current in-game descriptions govern costs and detailed effects; no exact Resolve threshold is supplied here.
