Gray and white markers help you read range or the action available to your weapon. They are not a general danger-color system for enemy attacks. The Attack Range and Attack Marker tutorial records were updated on November 4.
Read the range indicator
The range tutorial defines gray as outside attack range and white as within range. If attacks fall short, check the marker and your position before assuming damage or Traits are broken.
Move closer until the target is within the appropriate range, then try an attack. A white marker tells you about range; it does not guarantee a hit through obstacles, enemy movement or a mistimed action.
Recognize the axe-specific prompt
The separate Attack Marker tutorial describes an axe action:
| Marker | Tutorial's keyboard-and-mouse action |
|---|---|
| Gray | Right mouse button throws an axe |
| White | Left or right mouse button performs a melee attack |
This describes the axe context. Do not apply the same throwing instruction to a Longbow, Staff or every melee weapon. Use the displayed prompts for the equipped weapon and your input device.
Use target lock without assuming it fixes aim
Both tutorial records identify middle mouse button for target lock in the keyboard-and-mouse layout. Check your current binding, select the intended target, and watch whether the marker changes as you move.
The October 29 producer letter still identified ranged soft-lock behavior as needing work. Target lock is therefore not proof that every projectile will track perfectly. If aiming feels inconsistent, compare range, target selection and obstacles before changing your character build. Enemy red warnings belong to the separate unblockable-attack mechanic.
